The great Ketogenic Experiment – Day 4 Cabbage

First blood test @10:24 A.M. – 6.1 mmol/L ( 109.8 mg/dL)

I went for my usual walk with the dog, and did my blood test as pretty much as soon as I got back home.

It was surprisingly high, given that I hadn’t eaten or drunk anything since last night.  I did have a bottle of wine last night, maybe that had something to do with it.

Measured out the Cabbage

I measured out 140g of cabbage, so that the experiment was consistent.  However, I was simply unable to eat that much raw cabbage.  I quite like the taste of raw cabbage, but eating that much, it was really bitter, and it made my throat sore, so gave up after 100g.  I just simply couldn’t eat any more.

Next measurement, 15 minutes after finishing eating.

Well, that’s a turn up for the books, my blood sugar level actually went down after eating the cabbage, I have absolutely no idea why this is the case.

I am not in the mood for drinking cabbage juice after eating all that raw cabbage, so, I will continue the experiment tomorrow.

So, day 4, is actually day 4 and 5.

I had a busy morning, so fasted until I was able to do my first blood glucose test.

11:43 A.M. 5.5 nmol/L (99 mg/dL)

This was on an empty stomach, only exercise I had done was to walk the dog between 09:00 and 10:00.  I then had to go out for an appointment so wasn’t able to get do do the juicing until much later than usual.

It actually took quite a bit of time to get it down.  I have had no reactions from the tumour area so far.  Tested my blood 15 minutes after drinking the cabbage juice.

Results 7.3 nmol/L (131.4 mg/dL)

So, it went up a fair bit having concentrated juice, but not at all (in fact it went down) when I had 100g of raw cabbage.  I’ve got to say, I don’t recommend that much cabbage on it’s own.  It made the  back of my throat sore when drinking it, as it did eating it yesterday.

Not in ketosis yet

I haven’t taken the plunge and actually gone into ketosis just yet.  I am still burning carbohydrates for fuel at this point. I will continue to do so, until I have all the major foods covered.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow.  Avocado 😉
